Councilmember Alexander Supports Measure to Ban Pot Clubs

During today’s additional legislative meeting of the Council, Councilmember Yvette M. Alexander (Ward 7) voted in favor of permanently banning marijuana clubs. The measure, passed by a 7 – 6 vote, prohibits marijuana consumption in private clubs or in venues where the public is invited.

Currently, marijuana is decriminalized under Initiative 71. Initiative 71 allows District residents who are 21-years of age or older to legally consume marijuana in their homes as well as grow up to six plants, with no more than three mature plants. Today’s measure offered clarification on the District’s stance on public consumption of marijuana despite its decriminalization.
