DC VOTING RIGHTS (AUTONOMY)

As a native Washingtonian, Councilmember Alexander knows the importance of the District having a voice in Congress. In 2004 during the Democratic Convention in Boston, she was the only female representative who lobbied other state delegations to support D.C. Voting Rights. She has supported council measures to affirm the District’s message on voting rights to Congress; including the Local Budget Autonomy Act of 2012, which amended the Home Rule Act to provide local budget autonomy.

DC STATEHOOD NOW BOULEVARD DESIGNATION ACT OF 2014: a symbolic measure that would designate the 1500 to 1600 blocks of Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W. as D.C. Statehood Now Boulevard.
