From the start of her first term, Councilmember Alexander has worked tirelessly in transforming Ward 7 into a destination; to live, shop, dine and enjoy for recreation. Since 2007, Ward 7 has seen a steady economic boom with the delivery of several projects including; renovations of libraries and recreations centers, the opening of Park 7, which offers affordable and market-rate rental units and retail, the Nationals Youth Baseball Academy, the Washington Tennis, and Education Foundation and more. Ward 7 continues to transform with projects currently in progress that include; the Department of Motor Vehicles Service Center on Benning Road, Eastbrooke Apartments at Beulah Crossing, Skyland Town Center, East Capitol Gateway Marketplace and more.

MINN-BENN BID AMENDMENT ACT OF 2014: The establishment of the Minn-Benn Business Improvement District.

CARVER 2000 SENIOR MANSION REAL PROPERTY TAX ABATEMENT AMENDMENT ACT OF 2013: Extends tax exemptions and waive any related fees for the Carver 2000 Low-Income and Senior Housing Project. This was included in the 2015 fiscal year budget.

INCOME BASED HOMEOWNERSHIP TAX ABATEMENT AMENDMENT ACT OF 2013: An amendment to D.C. Code Title 47 to increase the income-based eligibility requirements for first-time homebuyers in the District of Columbia.

DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

FINANCING FOR THE THE GROVE AT PARKSIDE EMERGENCY APPROVAL RESOLUTION OF 2014: To approve the Department of Housing and Community Development financing for the Grove at Parkside, an affordable apartment development located in the Parkside community in Ward 7.

TENANT BILL OF RIGHTS ACT OF 2013: Requires the Office of the Tenant Advocate to produce a Tenant Bill of Rights and to require all leases for residential rental units to be accompanied by the Tenant Bill of Rights. It also set forth civil penalties for failure by landlords to provide the Tenant Bill of Rights to tenants at the time that the lease is first presented.
