The Push for Support for Retailers to Locate to Ward 7

Immediately after Walmart’s announcement to close 269 stores globally and pull away from projects at the site of Capital Gateway Marketplace and Skyland Town Center, Councilmember Yvette M. Alexander (Ward 7) was outraged. However, she saw this as an opportunity to court other major retailers to what is considered prime locations in Ward 7.

During the annual International Council of Shopping Centers Conference (RECON) in Las Vegas, Councilmember Yvette M. Alexander met with officials representing major retailers including; Target, The Home Depot, Regal Cinema, Harris Teeter, TJ Maxx, Marshall’s Home Goods, BJ’s and AMC. While Councilmember Alexander’s relentless advocacy is the first step in bringing in viable retail development into the ward, she needs the residents of Ward 7 to lend then their voice to the cause.

Below are links to petition a specific retailer. Residents are encouraged to sign each petition, which expresses support of the retailer coming to either Skyland or Capital Gateway. With more than 78,000 residents in Ward 7, Councilmember Alexander would like to see as many residents as possible sign the petitions. Petitions will be submitted to the appropriate representative of each retailer for review. Please see the list of petitions below:

  • Target (Proposed Anchor for Skyland)
  • Harris Teeter (Penn Branch and Capital Gateway)
  • Regal Cinema (Skyland)
  • The Home Depot (Proposed Anchor for Capital Gateway)
  • KLNB Retail (TJ Maxx, Marshall’s, Home Goods for Skyland)
  • AMC Theaters (Skyland)
  • Next Realty Mid-Atlantic (BJ’s for Capital Gateway)

Please share this email with your neighbors and friends of Ward 7. Every voice counts.
